Farming and agriculture are the main businesses in and around the village. Soft fruit, especially strawberries, are grown in considerable quantity. The Alders is a small trading estate on Seven Mile Lane and there is a business park on the Maidstone Road. A nationally renowned equine hospital is sited in Butchers Lane. 

The Moody Mare restaurant is in Seven Mile Lane. A good variety of restaurants and pubs can be found in West Malling.

Milk deliveries take place daily in the village and newspapers are delivered from the store in Wateringbury.

Post box collections are from The Street, the School and Butchers Lane at approximately 9.00 am and 5.00 pm daily. Sunday collections are made from Hadlow, Wateringbury and Asda at Kings Hill. Post is delivered once daily.

Telephone call boxes are situated by the Airfield estate and by the Moody Mare Restaurant


There is a regular bus service through the village. Timetables can be found at bus stops on The Street, one at the A228 end and the other opposite the old garage. Arriva service 7 runs between Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone twice an hour for the main part of the day Mondays to Saturdays. Service 77 runs between Tunbridge Wells and Kings Hill. This means there are buses between Mereworth, Hadlow, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells every 20 minutes.

Service 77 also runs every two hours on Sundays, continuing beyond Kings Hill to West Malling, Larkfield and Maidstone, as well as providing a link to Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

Service 215 Autocar – runs from Ditton to Paddock Wood Mondays to Fridays only on School days

Service 53 NuVenture service West Malling to West Peckham Tuesdays and Fridays
